A workout quandary...

So I have decided there is something wrong with my feet.

This is not something i just decided this week. I can recall this happening as far back as 2002 when I was 50lbs lighter than I am now.

When I workout on the elliptical, treadmill, bike or walk for a significant period of time, my feet go to sleep. From the middle of my foot to my toes. They are completely asleep. They tingle and are really irritating. I've gotten different types of shoes thinking maybe that was the problem but it hasn't helped. My feet are rather flat so maybe that's it. I have no idea. Do I need to see a foot specialist? Or do I just put on my big girl panties and move on?

  1. Hey Sheryl, I've had this problem on and off too. I have flat feet and with some good supportive shoes and learning some shoelace tying techniques it has gotten better, but still a strange phenomenon.

  2. Sheryl I've had the same problem also, but only when using a treadmill or other equipment. In 2008 when I trained for the Breast Cancer 3-Day it never happened. Good arch support (via an insert) and great shoes was the solution.

  3. I've had it happen too, on a treadmill or elliptical. I did notice a difference with better shoes though. I do group classes now and I don't seem to have the problem. I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with that same repetitive motion over and over? You might try going to the Fort Worth Running Company and having them fit you for shoes. They will watch you on the treadmill and fit you with a shoe that fits your running/walking style. My husband did that when he was training for a half-marathon and it made all the difference. Also, now that he knows the kind of shoe he needs, he can just buy them online for much cheaper. :)

I am so excited that you are still going to the gym even when it is unpleasant. Keep it up and eat your veggies!
